Summer skin issues solved

Summer, with its escalating humidity plus a sharp hike in temperature, it brings a host of skin woes that may lay dormant in the surrounding seasons. Here are a few tips on how to contend with some of the season’s most common skin issues.

SUMMER SKIN ISSUE: ACNE

In the summer, flare-ups are usually tied to a natural increase in oil production. The harsh summer heat causes you to sweat, and your skin to produce even more sebum. This causes pores to clog, leading to breakouts. All that extra oil can lead many people to cleanse more, but over-cleansing exacerbates acne. What to do instead? Avoid harsh cleansers, heavyweight moisturizers, and heavy sunscreens, instead, look for light and natural ingredients that absorb quickly and help calm redness and minimize oil production. Parsley Herbal Toner is an ideal spray that cleanses, disinfects and minimizes oil production. Violet’s lightweight SPF 29 Sunscreen will never clog pores and will protect your skin from the sun. I encourage my athlete teen clients to have our Parsley Herbal Toner handy. You should spray it throughout the day to balance your skin, prevent excess oil production, and disinfect skin on the go.

To prevent flare-ups from happening in the first place, regularly exfoliate with rice or gentle chamomile polisher, and keep your skin clean and hydrated by using light oils (Radiant Rose face oil is perfect!) and by drinking a plenty of water.

Diet triggers like dairy and high glycemic index foods (refined sugars, white bread, and pasta for instance,) will contribute to breakouts as well. Eating clean is absolutely essential for clear skin as well.

SUMMER SKIN ISSUE: CRACKED, DRY SKIN

Cracked dry skin on the feet comes from constant wearing of open-toed shoes and sandals, while cracked dry hands are common due to increased water immersion, which is especially severe now because of the additional handwashing to prevent infection. I suggest washing your hands with warm water and avoiding overly fragranced or dyed soaps, and immediately follow up with a light moisturizer, like Green Tea Body Cream.  For feet I heavily suggest gentle Sea Salt Scrub to remove dead skin, and Hemp Foot Cream that heals, hydrates, and soothes tired, achy feet. It deeply moisturizes and adds elasticity to the skin, protecting it against cracking and dryness, leaving skin extremely smooth, soft, and refreshed.
